MSA is pleased to announce the addition of Richard Coakley to the firm in the role of senior project manager at the company’s office in Atlanta, Georgia.
Coakley brings over 36 years of expertise in both public and private sector work, specializing in urban street, rural highway and bridge project design, analysis, surveying, reporting and development.
Prior to MSA, Rich served as principal transportation engineer for CH2M and Jacobs and held adjunct faculty appointments at Marquette University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He accumulated 11 years of project management and project engineering experience at firms such as SEH Inc., Ayres Associates and Donohue & Associates, with another 11 serving as civil engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Mr. Coakley earned his master’s in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an M.B.A. from the Keller Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He is a licensed, professional engineer (PE) in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin—as well as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer.
Rich is past president of the Wisconsin Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, secretary of the Midwest district, has been a member of the Transportation Research Board Geometric Design Committee for the last 12 years and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
