The community of Chilton banded together in a remarkable way to honor the life and legacy of Matt Kolbe — a beloved local sports enthusiast and team manager who passed away in 2011. Thanks to the vision and dedication of the Matt Kolbe Memorial Foundation, Nennig Park now features the region’s first all-abilities playground, a space designed for inclusion, accessibility, and fun for everyone.

A Vision Rooted in Kindness
Matt Kolbe is remembered for his infectious spirit and his motto: “Accept Others, Be Kind, Love Everyone.” His passion for sports and his unwavering support for athletes of all abilities made Nennig Park a special place for him. Today, that same park stands as a centerpiece for inclusivity and recreation in Calumet County.
The project broke ground in 2023, and the community celebrated its completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 29, 2024. Families, citizens, and project stakeholders gathered to experience a playground that truly reflects Matt’s values and the community’s commitment to accessibility.

What Makes This Playground Special
The playground offers a fully inclusive experience for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Key features include:

- ADA-compliant design and accessible routes connecting upper and lower park areas.
- A vibrant all-inclusive playground.
- Accessible viewing areas and an optimized lower baseball field for athletes with alternative needs.
MSA provided engineering design and site management for the project, working closely with Northland Recreation to bring this vision to life. From grading and landscaping plans to ensuring safe connectivity throughout the park, MSA played a pivotal role in shaping a space that meets the highest standards of accessibility and safety.
The success of this initiative was fueled by grassroots fundraising and widespread regional support. Local families, businesses, and volunteers rallied behind the cause, ensuring Matt’s legacy thrives in a space that embodies his spirit of inclusion.
Nennig Park now stands as a testament to what a community can achieve when it comes together with purpose and heart. The new playground not only honors Matt Kolbe’s memory but also creates a lasting impact for generations to come.
