The Ho-Chunk Nation wanted to upgrade the Wazee Area Wastewater Treatment Plant to meet projected growth for the next 20 years, while protecting the water quality of the Black River. MSA designed improvements that provide wastewater treatment for about 500 residents of the Ho-Chunk Nation and 1,000 inmates and staff at the State of Wisconsin’s Jackson Correctional Institute.

The $10.4 million project consists of lift station and collection system upgrades, in addition to upgrades and expansion of all the unit processes at the treatment plant. The upgrades also included a state-of-the-art computer control system. The new computer system allows the operations staff to monitor all treatment processes and lift stations from a desktop computer or a mobile device. The operator can monitor the plant in real time and view historical trends. This gives the operator instantaneous access to the information needed to make best decisions on how to maximize treatment performance.
