The Rock Island River Terminal, a fertilizer storage facility, has been in operation for more than 30 years. The Terminal’s storage facilities were outdated and inefficient – the owner opted to expand the facility, which involved creating a new, more efficient, 40,000-ton storage facility.

MSA assisted with the following elements of this multi-million-dollar project:
  • Environmental asbestos abatement, prior to the demolition of the existing buildings
  • Civil site design
  • Rail spur design
  • Construction staking and layout
  • Local and federal permitting
MSA coordinated the expansion and upgrade of the tracks with Iowa Interstate Railroad, Ltd. during the design and approval process. Due to limited property area and an existing levee, MSA obtained design variances from the Railroad to accommodate the new facility’s restraints.
