Central Avenue better serves the needs of businesses and community stakeholders who wanted to create an attractive downtown destination in Marshfield, WI.

City officials and business leaders challenged MSA to find a way to reconstruct one of this main thoroughfare one year ahead of schedule to avoid another year of supporting a crumbling, outdated roadway. MSA, with an office in Marshfield, worked with the City to efficiently utilize resources and provide an attractive, efficient streetscape with long-lasting concrete pavement.

MSA successfully completed the $9 million reconstruction project one year early. The renovated 1.3-mile, four-lane urban roadway better serves the needs of businesses and community stakeholders who wanted to create an attractive downtown destination. MSA also designed monotube traffic signals, some of the first in northern Wisconsin, to eliminate median clutter and improve signal visibility.

The design team met the aggressive schedule by:
  • Implementing an extensive public involvement plan for businesses and residents
  • Staging construction to reduce the project’s impact on the community
  • Salvaging existing storm sewer systems to save the City money
  • Constructing a stormwater diversion structure to provide an opportunity for future stormwater quality improvements
During construction, MSA also provided Resident Project Representative services for the sewer construction.

MSA received an Engineering Excellence Award for this project from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Wisconsin in 2012.
