Through the WDNR, eligible communities can receive grants for either the planning or construction of projects that control urban nonpoint source and stormwater runoff pollution. Applications for both planning and construction grants are due April 15, 2013. Contact us today with any questions regarding this opportunity!
 
Planning Grants
The Urban Nonpoint Source and Stormwater Management Planning program provides up to $85,000 to governmental units (including counties, cities, towns, tribes, etc.) to help fund the following eligible projects:
  • Stormwater management planning for urban areas
  • Preparing local ordinances affecting stormwater discharge
  • Stormwater utilities
  • Illicit discharge detection and elimination programs
  • Public information and education activities related to stormwater quality
This is a quarterly reimbursement grant program, requiring a minimum match of 30%.
 
Construction Grants
Governmental units can receive up to $150,000 in Urban Nonpoint Source and Stormwater Management Construction grants to cover the following eligible project costs:
  • Construction of structural urban best management practices (BMPs), including detention, wet, infiltration or wetland basins, or infiltration trenches
  • Engineering design and construction services for BMP installation
  • Land acquisition and easement purchase, including appraisal cost
  • Storm sewer rerouting and removal of structures
  • Streambank and shoreline stabilization
This program is a quarterly reimbursement grant program, requiring a minimum match of 50%.
 
Projects focused solely on new development or only on solving drainage and flooding problems are not eligible for UNPS&SW construction or planning grants.
