MSA is proud to be a sponsor of the 5th triennial International Conference on Roundabouts, which brings hundreds of transportation professionals together as a community of roundabout proponents and practitioners. Since the addition of 10 specialized roundabout engineers last fall from the original Ourston Engineering, MSA has increased our expertise and focus on roundabouts to improve traffic patterns throughout the United States.

The conference takes place May 8-10, 2017, at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay, Wisc. Home to the world’s largest roundabout project to date (14 Interchanges with 40+ roundabouts), Green Bay provides the ideal setting for this conference. Of Wisconsin’s 330+ roundabouts, 150+ are within a 50-mile radius of Green Bay/Fox Valley. Attendees will have the opportunity to drive, walk or cycle these traffic centers during the conference, including a bus tour to specific locations from the conference on May 9. Visitors will be inspired by the scale and complexity of the design that was initiated with leadership from WisDOT visionaries and other Wisconsin roundabout pioneers, who could foresee the safety and congestion-relieving benefits of roundabouts in many locations near Green Bay.

The International Roundabout Conference began in 1997, when Leif Ourston, roundabout pioneer, and a group of engineers from across the country met in Colorado to inaugurate the roundabout community’s first conference. Roundabouts had become a popular topic regarding intersections without traffic signals, so the time had come to develop an independent forum of professionals. Ourston, along with MSA’s roundabout leader, Mark Lenters, strongly advocated an evidence-based and science-minded approach to roundabouts, which are what we see in communities around the country today.

The conference will also feature a great lineup of expert speakers, including presentations and displays by MSA’s roundabout team. For more information about the conference, visit the conference website hosted by the Transportation Research Board or contact Mark Lenters, PE.
