Dave Rasmussen’s move to the new MSA office at 11 E. Marshall Street in Rice Lake will bring back plenty of memories. He's working out of the former City Hall, the site of his first job as a municipal planner.

A Special Building

Rasmussen, who has worked at MSA for 13 years, wears many hats. He’s an office manager, senior planner, and municipal advisor.

“I started my municipal career in this building,” he said, “and if we renew our lease after five years, I could very well retire from this location.”

When Rasmussen worked at the former City Hall, he was a part-time Rice Lake city planner employed by the West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. City staff worked on the first floor and a gym was on the second floor.

MSA’s new office, located on the second level, is on a carpeted floor that covers the former basketball court. Some of the former basketball court remains.

After the City relocated to a new City Hall years ago, the former municipal building sat vacant.

With the help of a Community Development Investment grant of $260,480, a developer renovated the building’s interior and exterior. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation awarded the funds for the rehabilitation and reuse of the landmark downtown building. Its current use is for commercial space, including a fitness center.

MSA’s Rice Lake History

Rice Lake, located in the beautiful Red Cedar River valley, is the largest community in Barron County and serves as a center for commerce, manufacturing, health, and educational services.

MSA, a full-service consulting firm, has served regional clients out of its Rice Lake office for the past 15 years.

“Thanks to the support of our clients, internal growth has necessitated that we relocate our Rice Lake office to a larger space,” said MSA Vice President Scott Martin, PE. “We are glad to be part of this vibrant community and located in an attractive structure that reflects the City’s heritage.”

A Rice Lake Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting and Open House is scheduled for Aug. 26.
