Fred Lochner, MSA’s first Director of New Services, has gained a national reputation for creating innovative solutions for large-scale projects that enhance the appreciation of the country’s natural resources. His projects have also promoted healthy outdoor lifestyles. He is based at MSA’s Baraboo, Wis. office.

Previously, Lochner founded Imperial Multimedia, Baraboo, to take advantage of emerging digital technology. His experience includes a significant amount of work for state park systems and other park facilities throughout the country. His firm provided electronic informational kiosks that allowed visitors to view interpretive information, trail maps and photos for attractions. He also worked to implement visitor centers, websites and reservation systems for a variety of different park facilities.

Develops Recreational Destinations

“My passion is working with diverse stakeholders to create projects that benefit their regions,” he said. “I can help identify a region’s unique natural, cultural and historical treasures that define a sense of place.  We then help to promote these treasures and enhance the overall visitor experience.”

Lochner's projects include:

  • Creation of a statewide, award-winning information, interpretation and wayfinding system, including the design of an electronic touch screen kiosk in Virginia State Parks.
  • Development of the Pennsylvania Wilds interpretive master plan, including concepts and vision for seven new state park visitor centers and nature inns.
  • Creation of the America's State Parks brand and key messaging along with an associated youth ambassador program.

Obtains Funds for Projects

As a partner with a variety of clients, Lochner successfully supports organizations to raise funds from the private sector, such as nonprofit foundations, which support improvements to state park systems and related projects.

At MSA, he will use his experience to spearhead alternative approaches to placemaking, experience design and fundraising to help propel projects forward.
