Al Geurts, PE, senior project manager, has returned to private consulting to do what he enjoys most – working on public works projects.

It’s no surprise that he was drawn to civil engineering. His father worked for the Northeast Region of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation so he grew up hearing about the joys and challenges of designing and building projects.

25 Years of Experience

Geurts brings 25 years of diverse leadership experience in both private and public environments to MSA. He is based at the Appleton office.

While attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he started working part time for a private engineering company. He continued working for the company in Madison and then decided to work for the Village of Waunakee, ending up as director of public works. His next stop was to Outagamie County where he became the highway commissioner.

During his career, Geurts served as the Wisconsin County Highway Association president for a two-year term. This position allowed him to meet a lot of people throughout the state.

Forge Successful Relationships

“I have experience working with other engineering professionals as well as state and local community leaders. I use my knowledge to work with key stakeholders to generate positive results,” Geurts said.

“Over the years, I’ve realized that you need to forge successful relationships and put together the right team to create a successful project,” he added.

In his role, Geurts will develop and manage transportation and public works projects. He is familiar with state and local funding, budgeting and construction management.

Geurts’ community service includes serving for six years on the Boy Scouts of America Baylakes Council Board. He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
